Kitchen remodeler tips for Boca Raton: a kitchen with brown and gold granite countertops, a raised breakfast bar and wood cabinets

01 · Before you call

What to Work Out Before You Call Anybody

Four things decide what your kitchen project is, and you can establish all four yourself in about fifteen minutes with a flashlight and a tape measure. Doing that before anybody visits changes the conversation, because you stop being told what you need and start checking whether what you are told matches what you found.

Test the boxes, not the doors

Open the cabinet under the sink, reach to the back and press down on the panel. It should be firm and dry. Check the back corners and the strip of frame beside the dishwasher, which takes years of steam. Turn a hinge screw and see whether it bites or spins.

Firm and dry means the front of your kitchen can be replaced without replacing what is behind it. Soft, swollen or spinning means the boxes have reached the end, and no door fixes that. This one check moves a project by a factor of several, and it takes two minutes.

Measure the run in linear feet

Walk each wall that carries cabinets and add those runs together in feet. Do not count uppers over the same run twice. Under twenty feet is a small kitchen. Twenty one to thirty five is the size most homes here actually have. Thirty six and up is large.

Square footage of the room tells you almost nothing, because a kitchen open to a big living space can have very little cabinetry and a closed galley can have a lot. Linear feet is the number every honest quote starts from, which is why it is the first thing we ask.

Measure the aisle at its narrowest point

From the face of the base cabinets to whatever is opposite. Around forty two inches one person works comfortably. Below about thirty six a dishwasher or oven door will not open with somebody standing there. If you are thinking about an island, this number decides whether you can have one before any drawing does.

Decide whether anything moves

The sink, the range, a wall. This is the question that separates weeks from months, and here it has a local edge: many homes in this area sit on a concrete slab with the kitchen drain running below it, so moving a sink means cutting and trenching concrete rather than adding pipe.

Answer those four and you can read any quote you are given, including ours.

How to Read a Kitchen Quote

A kitchen quote is comparable to another kitchen quote only if both of them say what is inside the number. Most do not, and the gaps are consistent enough to list.

What happens to the old kitchen. Removal and disposal are real work and real cost, and in a condominium they come with rules about hours, elevators and where a container may stand. A quote silent about it has not stopped it from happening.

Who repairs what was behind it. Taking cabinets off a wall after decades reveals torn paper, old tile, missing drywall and sometimes water damage. Ask who fixes that and whether it is inside the number.

Where the countertop is templated. Off the installed cabinets after they are level, or off a drawing. This is the single most common cause of a counter that does not fit, and it is entirely preventable.

What the cabinet box is made of. Most quotes name a door style and a finish and leave the box to your imagination, which is convenient, because the box is where a quote gets cheap without looking cheap. Ask for the panel material and thickness in writing.

Whether demolition waits for the materials. On anything with a long fabrication time, this one rule decides whether you eat standing up for days or for months.

What the warranty covers and for how long. In writing, with the contract, before anything is scheduled.

Who holds the license and the insurance. Ask for the number and look it up yourself rather than taking anybody's word for it, ours included.

03 · FAQ

Common Questions

What should I check before hiring a kitchen remodeler in Boca Raton?

The license number, looked up yourself rather than taken on trust, and whose name is on the certificate of insurance. Then the four checks at the top of this page, so you can tell whether what you are being sold matches what your kitchen actually needs. Then, in the quote itself, the seven items above: disposal, wall repair, templating, box material, the demolition rule, the warranty terms and who is accountable.

How do I know if my Boca Raton kitchen needs refacing or new cabinets?

Press the floor of the sink base, check the back corners and the frame beside the dishwasher, and turn a hinge screw. Three firm, dry results point to refacing, which replaces everything you see for a fraction of new cabinetry. Any soft panel, swollen edge or spinning screw points to replacement. The second question is whether the layout works, because refacing changes no dimension in the room.

Why does a Boca Raton address not settle who issues my permit?

Because the parcel decides it, not the envelope. A property with a Boca Raton mailing address can fall inside the City, inside the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, or in unincorporated Palm Beach County, and those are separate systems with separate procedures. It is worth establishing before drawings are prepared rather than after.

How long should a kitchen remodel take in Boca Raton?

It depends on which project it is, and the number worth asking for is not the total. Ask how many days a crew is actually inside your house, because that is the number you live through. A total of several weeks with a few days of disruption and a total of several weeks with a month of disruption are very different experiences of the same headline figure.

What is the most common mistake Boca Raton homeowners make on a kitchen project?

Deciding the finishes before deciding the structure. The wall, the slab, the panel and the boxes determine what is possible and what it costs, and they are all invisible in a showroom. People choose a door style and a countertop first, then discover that the plan they fell in love with needs a beam or a trenched slab, and the budget was spent on the parts that were easiest to choose.

Is this Boca Raton tips section going to have guides?

Yes, and there are none here yet. This site is new, and rather than publish thin articles to fill a page we would rather this page carry the checks that are actually useful today. What lands here later will be the questions that come up repeatedly at measurements, answered properly.

Run the checks, then send us what you found.

The box test, the tape across the aisle, the linear feet of your cabinet runs. Those three take about fifteen minutes and they are most of what we would establish on a first visit anyway. Send them with a photo and the conversation starts from something real.
